Additional policies and FAQs
• What is Recycled silver ?
Recycled silver is exactly the same as newly mined silver, but without the level of degradation to our natural resources caused by new mining. Mining precious metals has a massive social and environment impact.
All pieces sold by Bare Gravity is crafted using 100% recycled solid sterling silve, with the exception of some chain components, which may not contain 100% recycled metal.
Sourced from a trusted UK based manufacturer. The recycled silver is “produced in a fully traceable, audited and certified process”.
• What is Keum-Boo?
Keum-Boo means ‘attached gold in Korean’. It is an ancient Korean technique that refers to fusing 24ct gold foil to the surface of another metal by using heat and pressure. The gold and silver molecules link at the surface and creates a durable, permanent bond.
Keum-Boo gold foil is different to gold leaf; gold leaf is thinner and will be absorbed by the silver, not fused together. (0.1 micron compared to Keum-Boo, which is 25 times thicker – 2.5 microns)
The 24ct gold foil comes from 100% recycled gold, it is sourced from Conflict-free Smelters which conforms to international guidelines set by CFSI (Conflict Free Sourcing Initiative). It is not sourced from conflict mines.
CUSTOM MADE
In order to offer a wide range of individual designs, I keep limited stock and most of my work is on a made to order basis, produced in 'one-off' or limited series. Existing designs can often be customized to your own requirements, various options regarding sizes and finishes appear in the description under each listing.
Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns prior placing an order, especially if you have any doubt about the sizing or customizations. I will be happy to guide you!
Please take care on choosing your ring size. I highly recommend having your finger measured by your local jeweler before placing an order. Bespoke items are neither refundable nor exchangeable.
PACKAGING
All items are shipped beautifully packaged and ready to give.
PHOTOGRAPHIC ACCURACY
While every effort has been made to present Bare Gravity’s jewellery as close to the original as possible, colour accuracy of images cannot be guaranteed, depending on the monitor etc... Some items are not shown to the precise scale in the photographs however dimensions are included in the description.
BEAUTY OF HANDCRAFTED
Due to the handmade nature of the jewellery, each piece is unique, please allow for some slight variations from piece to piece. What you see in the photos is an indication of what your piece will look like, each piece is handmade to order just for you.
Bare Gravity jewellery is individualized, think of it like human fingerprints, they look alike but no two are ever identical.
SIMPLE WAYS TO CARE FOR YOUR JEWELLERY
- Oxidized silver -
Please note that the oxidizing finish isn't permanent. The surface treatment will wear off bit by bit over time, leaving you a lovely vintage look.
To keep the black patina longer I recommend following this simple guideline:
> Do not clean your jewellery with any abrasives.
> Avoid exposure to household chemicals, perfume, hairspray and cosmetics.
> Remove jewellery before showering.
> Store your oxidized jewellery separately from other items to prevent scratching.
- Silver and Gold -
Both Sterling Silver and Gold are alloys with a base metal of Copper - Silver will oxidise and gain a patina with time. To protect your jewellery as much as possible from tarnish avoid leaving it in an area with moisture like your bathroom. Store your jewellery in a dry place and avoid chemicals exposure to hairspray, perfume, deodorant, body lotion, bleach, etc..
- Brass -
Brass is mainly an alloy that consists of copper with zinc added.
The manufacture of brass right across the world is highly dependent on the recycling of scrap brass and copper. This makes brass one of the most recycled metals in the world. Making brass from new copper and zinc would be uneconomical and wasteful of raw materials so, since new brass articles are made from recycled scrap, brass is said to be sustainable. In the UK brass manufacturers use almost 100% brass scrap.
Care:
Brass, bronze and sterling silver will oxidize over time to create a lovely aged patina. It will be given a wax seal before leaving me, but it is the nature of base metals to patina. To slow the aging of your piece keep away from water, creams and oils and exposure to humidity. When not wearing, store in a dry place free of moisture.
If you prefer to bring a brighter shine back to your piece, simply use a gentle pre-treated jewelry polishing cloth. You can also prepare a natural cleansing solution with a combination of water, lemon and salt. Add a few drops of lemon to a cup of hot water, then add a teaspoon of salt and stir gently. Place the brass chain in the solution for a few minutes, then remove and rinse thoroughly. If needed, the dip in the solution can be repeated. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
